The Essence of Peru 12 Days: Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Peru tour package or a custom trip?

Both. It is a ready-made Peru vacation package with every hotel, transfer, guide, train and excursion already planned, but it runs as a custom trip: you choose the date, the hotel category and the number of travelers, and we can adjust any day. Departures are daily, all year.

Is 12 days enough to see Peru?

Yes, for the essentials: the Ballestas Islands and the Nazca Lines on the coast, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu in the Andes, and Lake Titicaca. Flights link the regions so no day is wasted on the road.

What is included in the Essence of Peru package?

11 nights with breakfast, all airport transfers, the Lima and Cusco city tours, the Ballestas and Huacachina day trip, the Nazca Lines flight and bus to Lima, the Sacred Valley, the panoramic train, Machu Picchu with guide, the Route of the Sun bus and the Lake Titicaca islands.

Why does the trip end at Lake Titicaca?

Lake Titicaca (approx. 3,830 m) is the highest point of the route, so visiting it after Cusco and Machu Picchu means you arrive already acclimatized. From Juliaca airport, near Puno, you fly straight back to Lima.

How does the itinerary help with altitude?

You fly to Cusco (approx. 3,400 m) with a free first day, visit the lower Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, and only then continue to Puno and Lake Titicaca (approx. 3,830 m), when your body is already acclimatized. Drink plenty of water and consult your doctor before travel if you have a medical condition.

When is the best time to travel?

The tour runs all year. April to November is the dry season in the Andes; from December to March the coast is in summer and the highlands are green.

Can I customize the Essence of Peru?

Yes. Departures are daily, all year, and every day of this 10-day itinerary can be adapted: add nights, upgrade hotels, switch to a luxury train to Machu Picchu or add Huayna Picchu. Just tell us in the request form.

How much does the Essence of Peru cost?

The price depends on the hotel category you choose (Essential 2★, Comfort 3★, Superior 4★ or Deluxe 5★) and on the number of travelers. Open the Rates tab for the current price per person, based on double or twin accommodation. Domestic flights are quoted separately so you can choose airline and schedule.
