Overland Adventure Peru 15 Days: Your Questions Answered

What makes this an overland adventure?

Almost the whole route is traveled by road and water rather than by plane: the Pacific coast to Nazca, the Andes to Arequipa and Colca, the altiplano to Puno, the Route of the Sun to Cusco and the back road to Machu Picchu through Santa Teresa. The only flights are the Nazca Lines overflight and the final hop from Cusco to Lima.

What is included in the 15-day tour?

14 nights of accommodation with breakfast, all ground transport and transfers, the Ballestas boat trip, the Nazca Lines flight, the 2-day Colca tour, Ticonata Island with the Mummies Museum, the Uros and Taquile Islands, the Route of the Sun bus, the Cusco city tour, the Cocalmayo hot springs, the guided Hydroelectric walk, Machu Picchu with guide and the train back to Cusco.

How hard is the Hydroelectric walk to Machu Picchu?

It is a flat walk of about 11 km along the railway beside the Urubamba River, taking approx. 2.5–3 hours. Anyone in normal health can do it; you only carry a day pack, and in the rainy months good shoes and a rain jacket are essential.

What is Ticonata Island?

Ticonata is a small island on Lake Titicaca, off the Capachica Peninsula, where a Quechua community runs its own tourism. You reach it on an artisanal sailboat, visit its Mummies Museum with ancient burials found on the island, and share a home-cooked lunch with local families — a quieter, more personal side of the lake.

How does the itinerary help with altitude?

Altitude is introduced gradually: Arequipa (approx. 2,335 m) and the Colca Valley (approx. 3,600 m) prepare your body before Puno (approx. 3,830 m) and Cusco (approx. 3,400 m). Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals on arrival, try coca tea and take the first afternoon at each new altitude slowly. Consult your doctor before travel if you have a medical condition.

How much does Overland Adventure Peru 15 Days cost?

The price depends on the hotel category you choose (Essential 2★, Comfort 3★, Superior 4★ or Deluxe 5★) and on the number of travelers. Open the Rates tab for the current price per person, based on double or twin accommodation.
