Peru Discovery: From Colonial Lima to the Inca Capital

Peru Discovery is a journey through history as much as through landscapes. A guided tour of colonial Lima comes first, then the road south to Paracas Bay, the Ballestas Islands and the Huacachina Oasis, and the ancient mysteries of the Nazca Lines. Arequipa’s Spanish-era architecture, the pre-Inca terraces of the Colca Canyon and the island communities of Lake Titicaca follow, before the Route of the Sun brings you to Cusco, the capital of the Incas, the Sacred Valley and finally Machu Picchu.

Peru Discovery 14 Days: Your Questions Answered

What will I discover on this 14-day tour?

Colonial Lima, the wildlife of Paracas and the Ballestas Islands, the Huacachina Oasis, the Nazca Lines, Arequipa’s White City, the Colca Canyon and its condors, the communities of Lake Titicaca, Inca Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu — Peru’s history from pre-Inca cultures to colonial times.

Is this tour good for travelers who don’t want to hike?

Yes. Peru Discovery has no demanding hikes: visits are guided walks through cities, archaeological sites and viewpoints, and the longest distances are covered by bus, boat, train and a short flight.

How long are the road journeys?

The longest are Nazca – Arequipa (approx. 9–10 hours, after the morning flight), Colca – Puno (approx. 6 hours) and the Route of the Sun from Puno to Cusco (approx. 10 hours with guided stops and lunch). The others are between two and four hours.

How does the itinerary help with altitude?

Altitude is introduced gradually: Arequipa (approx. 2,335 m) and the Colca Valley (approx. 3,600 m) prepare your body before Puno (approx. 3,830 m) and Cusco (approx. 3,400 m). Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals on arrival, try coca tea and take the first afternoon at each new altitude slowly. Consult your doctor before travel if you have a medical condition.

When is the best time to travel?

The tour runs all year. April to November is the dry season in the Andes, ideal for Lake Titicaca, Cusco and Machu Picchu, while December to March brings green valleys, afternoon showers in the mountains and summer on the coast.

How much does Peru Discovery 14 Days cost?

The price depends on the hotel category you choose (Essential 2★, Comfort 3★, Superior 4★ or Deluxe 5★) and on the number of travelers. Open the Rates tab for the current price per person, based on double or twin accommodation.
