Every day of your trip, with where you'll spend the night.

Miraflores seaside cliffs in Lima Day 1

Arrival in Lima & Transfer to Your Hotel

A driver meets you in the arrivals hall of Jorge Chávez International Airport and takes you to your hotel in Miraflores, the seaside district perched on cliffs above the Pacific. Rest after your flight, then take an easy walk along the malecón gardens to Larcomar and enjoy your first Peruvian dinner — ceviche, lomo saltado and a pisco sour.

Overnight in Lima
San Francisco Monastery in Lima's colonial center Day 2

Explore Lima: City Tour & Main Attractions

A guided half-day in the historic center of Lima, founded in 1535 and listed by UNESCO: the Plaza Mayor with the Cathedral and Government Palace, the carved wooden balconies of the colonial mansions and the San Francisco Monastery with its library and catacombs. Spend the afternoon in Miraflores or Barranco and taste Lima’s world-famous cuisine.

Overnight in Lima
Plaza Mayor of Cusco and its Cathedral Day 3

Flight to Cusco & Time at Leisure to Acclimatize

A short flight takes you over the Andes to Cusco (approx. 3,400 m). After the transfer to your hotel, the rest of the day is free to acclimatize: drink coca tea, have a light lunch and, later, walk slowly to the Plaza Mayor and the Inca walls of Hatunrumiyoc.

Flight Lima – Cusco Overnight in Cusco
Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca and its mineral stripes Day 4

Full-Day Excursion & Trekking to Rainbow Mountain

An early pick-up takes you through the villages of the Cusco highlands to the start of the Vinicunca trail. Walk at your own pace through valleys of grazing alpacas, with the snow-capped Ausangate on the horizon, up to the viewpoint at over 5,000 m, where the slopes glow red, yellow, green and turquoise. Horses can be hired for part of the way. Back in Cusco in the evening.

Hike to Rainbow Mountain Overnight in Cusco
Vistadome panoramic train in the Sacred Valley Day 5

Sacred Valley Excursion & Panoramic Train to Machu Picchu

Descend into the Sacred Valley of the Incas to visit the market and terraces of Pisac and the temple fortress of Ollantaytambo, one of the few Inca towns still lived in today. In the afternoon, the panoramic train follows the Urubamba River to Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu.

Panoramic train Overnight in Aguas Calientes
Guided tour of Machu Picchu, the Inca citadel Day 6

Machu Picchu Guided Tour & Train Back to Cusco

Take an early bus up to Machu Picchu and discover the citadel with your guide: the Main Plaza, the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana and the terraces that seem to hang over the Urubamba canyon. In the afternoon, return by train and road to Cusco.

Peru Getaway 8 Days: Frequently Asked Questions

Is 8 days enough for Peru?

Eight days is enough for Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, plus one extra highlight — here, Rainbow Mountain. If you prefer the coast or the Amazon, see our 10-day tours with the Nazca Lines, Lake Titicaca, Tambopata or the Amazon River.

What is included in the Peru Getaway 8 Days?

7 nights of accommodation with breakfast, airport transfers, the Lima city tour, the Rainbow Mountain excursion, the Sacred Valley tour, the panoramic train, the Machu Picchu entrance ticket with guide and shuttle bus, and all listed entrance fees.

Can I do Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu on the same trip?

Yes. This itinerary does exactly that: Rainbow Mountain on day 4 and Machu Picchu on day 6, with the Sacred Valley in between. Both are full days, so the rest of the itinerary is kept relaxed.

Is Rainbow Mountain hard so soon after arriving in Cusco?

It comes on your second day in Cusco and reaches more than 5,000 m, so it is the most demanding day. If you are sensitive to altitude, we can move it after Machu Picchu or replace it with a gentler excursion such as Maras and Moray; horses are also available on the trail.

How does the itinerary help with altitude?

You rest on your first afternoon in Cusco (approx. 3,400 m), and the Sacred Valley (approx. 2,900 m) and Machu Picchu (approx. 2,430 m) are lower. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol on arrival and check with your doctor if you have a medical condition.

When is the best time for this tour?

April to November is the dry season, with the best views at Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu. The tour runs all year; from December to March expect afternoon showers and green landscapes.

Can I customize this 8-day tour?

Yes. Departures are daily, all year, and every day of this 10-day itinerary can be adapted: add nights, upgrade hotels, switch to a luxury train to Machu Picchu or add Huayna Picchu. Just tell us in the request form.

How much does the Peru Getaway 8 Days cost?

The price depends on the hotel category you choose (Essential 2★, Comfort 3★, Superior 4★ or Deluxe 5★) and on the number of travelers. Open the Rates tab for the current price per person, based on double or twin accommodation. Domestic flights are quoted separately so you can choose airline and schedule.
