A Peru Bolivia Trip Itinerary from the Pacific to the Salt Flats

Andean Explorer is a Peru Bolivia tour package that crosses South America from the Pacific Ocean to the largest salt flat on Earth. The first half explores Peru — the wildlife of Paracas and the Ballestas Islands, the dunes of Huacachina, the Nazca Lines from the air, Arequipa, a full day in the Colca Canyon and the Inca world of Cusco and Machu Picchu. The second half follows the high Andes into Bolivia: Lake Titicaca, the border by land, La Paz and three days by 4x4 over the Salar de Uyuni, the flamingo lagoons and the Sol de Mañana geysers.

Peru Bolivia Tour Package 17 Days: Your Questions

Is this a multi-country tour package or a tailor-made trip?

It is a complete South America tour package — hotels, transfers, guides, trains, flights coordination and excursions are all planned — but it runs as a tailor-made trip: you choose the date, the hotel category and the group size, and any day can be adjusted. Departures are daily, all year.

What is the route of this Peru Bolivia itinerary?

Lima – Paracas – Huacachina – Nazca – Arequipa – Colca – Cusco – Machu Picchu – Puno – La Paz – Uyuni – La Paz, with a final flight from La Paz to Lima for your international connection.

How many days are spent in Bolivia?

Six: the overland day from Puno to La Paz, three days on the Uyuni expedition, a free afternoon in La Paz and the morning flight home. The other 11 days are in Peru.

Is the Uyuni salt flat tour comfortable?

It is an adventure: you travel in a 4x4 with a driver-guide on unpaved roads, and the lodge on the second night is simple and cold. The first night is in a hotel built of salt. All meals are included.

How do I cross the border from Peru to Bolivia?

The tourist coach from Puno follows Lake Titicaca to the frontier. You get off, collect your Peruvian exit stamp, walk a few meters to Bolivian immigration and re-board — usually under an hour, with the crew helping. Keep your passport and the Peruvian immigration slip handy for the crossing.

Do I need a visa for Bolivia?

Whether you need a Bolivian visa depends on your passport: many nationalities enter freely for tourism, others must apply beforehand or, in some cases, at the border. Requirements are updated from time to time, so confirm with the nearest Bolivian consulate before you book, and make sure your passport has at least six months’ validity.

Which months are best for Peru and Bolivia?

Wet months (January–March) can flood the Salar with a thin layer of water that mirrors the sky — spectacular, though heavy rain may alter the lagoon route. Dry months (April–November) bring a white, cracked salt crust, clear skies and full access to the Altiplano lagoons, and are also the best time for Cusco and Machu Picchu.

How much does the 17-day Peru Bolivia tour package cost?

Your price is set by the hotel category (Essential 2★, Comfort 3★, Superior 4★ or Deluxe 5★) and the size of your group. See the Rates tab for today’s price per person in a double or twin room; flights between cities are quoted separately.
