A Peru Itinerary of Contrasts

The Counterpoints of Peru is a 13-day Peru trip itinerary built on contrasts: the ocean capital of Lima and the volcanic White City of Arequipa, the depths of the Colca Canyon and the heights of Lake Titicaca, the colonial streets of Cusco and the Inca stones of Machu Picchu. A flight to Arequipa skips the long coastal road and gives you a gentle first step into the Andes, so by the time you reach Cusco — with a free day to explore and the hike to Rainbow Mountain — you are fully acclimatized.

Counterpoints of Peru 13 Days: Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Peru tour package or a custom trip?

Both. It is a ready-made Peru vacation package with every hotel, transfer, guide, train and excursion already planned, but it runs as a custom trip: you choose the date, the hotel category and the number of travelers, and we can adjust any day. Departures are daily, all year.

Why fly to Arequipa instead of going by road?

The flight from Lima to Arequipa (approx. 1.5 hours) replaces a long journey along the coast and lands you at approx. 2,335 m, a perfect first step into the Andes before the Colca Canyon and Lake Titicaca.

What is included in the Counterpoints of Peru package?

12 nights with breakfast, airport transfers, the Lima city tour, the 2-day Colca tour, the Lake Titicaca islands, the Route of the Sun bus, Rainbow Mountain, the Sacred Valley, the panoramic train and Machu Picchu with guide.

What can I do on the free day in Cusco?

Explore the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and the Koricancha, the artisan quarter of San Blas and the San Pedro market at your own pace, or ask us to add a cooking class, a city tour or a visit to the Inca Museum.

Is Rainbow Mountain hard?

It is a moderate hike above 5,000 m, but it comes on day 10, after a week at altitude, so you will be acclimatized. Horses are available for part of the way.

How does the itinerary help with altitude?

Altitude is introduced gradually: Arequipa (approx. 2,335 m) and the Colca Valley (approx. 3,600 m) prepare your body before Puno (approx. 3,830 m) and Cusco (approx. 3,400 m). Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals on arrival, try coca tea and take the first afternoon at each new altitude slowly. Consult your doctor before travel if you have a medical condition.

Can I customize this Peru tour package?

Yes. Departures are daily, all year, and every day of this 10-day itinerary can be adapted: add nights, upgrade hotels, switch to a luxury train to Machu Picchu or add Huayna Picchu. Just tell us in the request form.

How much does the Counterpoints of Peru cost?

The price depends on the hotel category you choose (Essential 2★, Comfort 3★, Superior 4★ or Deluxe 5★) and on the number of travelers. Open the Rates tab for the current price per person, based on double or twin accommodation. Domestic flights are quoted separately so you can choose airline and schedule.
